Too many pens and their refills are disposable by design. Similar to printer ink cartridges, pen companies want you to buy into their format so they can keep selling you replacement pens or refills repeatedly. It's good for their business, but it's bad for the planet and stifles creativity.

As a product designer and craftsman who loves using a variety of pens to create illustrations and designs, I had this very problem! Pens would sit in my drawer for years, either patiently waiting for that very specific refill, or I was just loath to dispose of an otherwise fully functional pen that had run out of ink.
Having designed and handmade calligraphy and fountain pens for creative folks across the world full-time for over 6 years, I decided it was time to apply my knowledge to the pen I used most of all and one of the biggest culprits when it came to its disposable nature: the fineliner.

I purchased the Lumos Duo and I like that I can carry one pen with two different size nibs and I don't have to worry about traveling with this pen. Easy to fill with Ink, change nib sizes and even the Ink color. Great design and function. Below is my version on Tom's Studio Tree Logo that I did with the Lumos pen.
I am trying to be more sustainable and not rely on one-use pens and I needed a pen for day to day in work. Queue the Lumos! It is a beaut! The packaging is well designed and a joy to open when it arrived. The tip packet especially brought much joy! It is very easy and satisfying to fill up the reservoir with ink. I bought the multi-tip pen, which has come in very handy in work. The craftsmanship is second to none. There is a lovely weight to the pen, which speaks of the quality of materials used. I am delighted to use this pen for many years to come. I can’t recommend Tom’s products enough. Many moons ago I bought one of Tom’s gorgeous Dorset oak fountain pens, which I use nearly every day. I will definitely invest in a pink and ivy Lumos for my twins when they are a little bit older.
