Too many pens and their refills are disposable by design. Similar to printer ink cartridges, pen companies want you to buy into their format so they can keep selling you replacement pens or refills repeatedly. It's good for their business, but it's bad for the planet and stifles creativity.

"It is brilliant: Beautiful, the perfect weight, a range of nibs, satiny ink. The drawing (almost) does itself."
David Downton

As a product designer and craftsman who loves using a variety of pens to create illustrations and designs, I had this very problem! Pens would sit in my drawer for years, either patiently waiting for that very specific refill, or I was just loath to dispose of an otherwise fully functional pen that had run out of ink.

Having designed and handmade calligraphy and fountain pens for creative folks across the world full-time for over 6 years, I decided it was time to apply my knowledge to the pen I used most of all and one of the biggest culprits when it came to its disposable nature: the fineliner.

    What ink can I use?

The Lumos is compatible with dye-based Fountain Pen Inks, so long as they don’t contain particles (such as shimmer inks) or binders (like acrylic or shellac).

Exception to the rule? We sell a splendid waterproof pigment ink (our own No.60 Fountain Pen Waterproof in Pigment Black). Or, if you want to splash out, Sailor Kiwa-Guro ink is a great option too.

What are the differences between the Duo and the Single Lumos?

The Single Lumos has one tip and one ink reservoir, which is double the Duo's reservoir size.
The Duo Lumos allows you to have two different pens in one body, allowing you to easily change between nibs and ink colours on either side.

Can I purchase replacement tips and reservoirs for my Lumos?

    Lumos Duo

I’m so impressed with this pen. The colour (raspberry) is beautiful and it’s a whole new writing/ drawing experience. I love that there are interchangeable nibs and a handy little cover so your hands stay clean when changing the nibs. I’m thinking of getting another one to keep in my handbag. I’ve been able to get rid of all of my timelines, so therefore less waste/less expense.

    Love my Lumos!

My Lumos is the latest addition to my art journey in retirement. I began with watercolors in April of ‘23 and now have added sketching to my daily practice. The Lumos is super smooth with the option of various sized nibs. Today’s project was a sunflower and I’m very pleased with the results. Thank you Tom’s Studio!

So good I had to get a second one. And then a third.

I’ve had a single tip Lumos for a couple of years now and adore it. Then I bought a Duo Tip and have loved that. And this makes my second Duo Tip - because for creating artwork, writing, and just general daily use - having three nib & ink options was just not enough. Can confirm that five options is better than three. Also likely that I’ll add another Lumos to the family at some point.

I’m a graphic designer and artist - Lumos has replaced all the fine-liners that used to live in every bag, backpack, pen jar and pocket - and I went through a lot of fine liners. Feels great to be creating less waste and using the bottled ink that I’ve had around for using in fountain pens for a decade or so. But most of all, these are smooth flowing pens, the nibs are durable and I’ve only worn out a couple of nibs over a few years of writing - which is much more than I can say for the tips on throw away fine liners.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Last Pen You'll Ever Need (In the Best Way Possible) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Okay, let’s be real—I did not expect to have strong feelings about a pen. But this thing? Absolute game-changer.

First off, it’s beautiful. Like, the kind of pen that makes you feel fancy just holding it. The weight is perfect—not too light, not too heavy—just enough to feel like you know what you’re doing, even if you’re just doodling stick figures.

But the best part? It’s endlessly refillable. No more graveyard of dried-up pens in my desk drawer. No more hoarding a pen body, hoping I’ll magically find the right refill one day. This one is designed to last forever, which is amazing because I never want to be without it.

Oh, and the nibs? Absolute perfection. You get nine different artist tips and two writing tips, which means you can go from journaling to sketching to inking your next masterpiece (or just aggressively underlining things in your planner) all with the same pen.

Seriously, if you love pens, drawing, or just hate waste, this is the one to get. I don’t throw around the term “life-changing” lightly, but if a pen could be life-changing… this would be it.
