Expect a popcorn-inspired, moreish tea that pairs perfectly with your biscuit of choice. It’s a delicious twist on classic English breakfast tea, with playful notes of toasted brown rice – a little nod to Japan. It’s the perfect brew to savour as you let your thoughts wander – who knows, your next big idea might be just a sip away!

Brew Tips: Steep in freshly boiled water for 3 minutes. Perfect with or without milk (and excellent paired with a biscuit!)

Ingredients: Indian Assam Black Tea, Sri Lankan Black Tea, Toasted Rice, Calendula Petals, Natural Flavourings (Honeycomb).

A surprisingly genius blend!

I got very excited when I first heard about Tom's own tea blend. Partly because I am an huge tea enthusiast generally, and partly because I am already a big fan of teas with toasted rice and/ or popped corn in them (such as genmaicha). Normally, though, you see such ingredients paired with green tea blends.

Seeing Assam as the principle black tea in this blend, I knew the toasted rice was going to work very well with the naturally malty nature of this leaf, favoured of many English Breakfast blends.

The instructions encourage you to use freshly boiled water (top tip, make sure it's freshly drawn and ideally free of scale and sediment), steep for 3-5 minutes, and then it's up to you to choose whether to use a sweetener and/ or a milk.

Allow me to extoll the virtues of each. Without additions, this is a complex, malty, toasty, yet smooth and clean brew. It is lovely as-is. With sweetener (I use a dab of agave) but no milk, it starts tasting a bit like biscuits! Yummy biscuits! Or rice crispies. When milky you get the effects above but the bitterness is tempered by the introduction of something cooler and a bit creamy.

I can't recommend it enough. You get a free sample when you buy other products, but why not be brave and take a punt on this delicious tea!
