Wren - Take Flight & Write

A beautiful and infinitely refillable writing pen, equipped with a Japanese-made writing tip. We're on a mission to make choosing refillable options easier, so you can now buy two (or more!) Wren pens and save 10%

Every year, millions of disposable pens are thrown-away, adding to the growing environmental waste. Similar to printer ink cartridges, pen companies design their products for short-term use, pushing you to repeatedly buy new pens or refills. It's profitable for them, but disastrous for the planet – and limits your creative freedom.

As a product designer and craftsman who loves writing, I became frustrated with the waste created by disposable pens. They would pile up in drawers, waiting for a specific refill, or worse, end up in the bin despite being perfectly usable – if only they had ink.

After years of designing and handcrafting calligraphy and fountain pens for creatives worldwide, I decided it was time to tackle one of the biggest culprits: the everyday writing pen. The result? The Wren – a pen designed not only to write beautifully but also to last a lifetime, helping to reduce the mountains of waste created by disposable pens.

Full FAQs and a video guide to getting started with your Wren can be found here.

What ink can I use?

The Wren is compatible with all but the most experimental fountain pen inks (think shimmer + iridescent). We offer a beautiful range of ink for fountain pens, which are perfect for the Wren and can be found here.

Note: Calligraphy Ink has an acrylic binder which will block the pen and is not suitable for use with the Wren.

Some ink colours can concentrate in the tip, so you may experience a lighter colour after a line or two. This is completely normal and looks quite nice!

How do I store the reservoir and tips?
You can store reservoirs and tips, and change to a different colour using spare reservoirs and my reservoir storage containers.

How long will the tips/ink last?
You can expect the high-quality, Japanese-made tip to last for months of use. We tested a single ink fill in the Wren on a plotter – a device used for precision drawing – and it wrote consistently for 344 metres. That's the equivalent of 50 A4 pages of handwriting!

When the tip eventually dulls, you can find packs of three replacement tips here.

Anything else I should know?
Yes! I’ve designed the pen to include ‘micro-grooves’, tiny ridges that enhance grip without using plastics. Please note: the black and midnight colourways do not feature these micro-grooves, as they have a grippy matte finish.

We aim to process your order within 1-3 working days. Please note that this increases to 1-4 working days for orders that include any personalisation, such as engraving.

Love It!

In general, I am trying to find more ways to embrace minimalism and reduce plastic usage. However, I was intimidated by traditional fountain pens. When I found this pen, I snatched it up. I love it. It writes very cleanly, and was not difficult to fill with ink (however, in my excitement, I did get ink all over my fingers the first time I used it.) I will likely order 1 or 2 more so that I don't have to change ink reservoirs if I want to have different colors to write with. They aren't difficult to change, but it's not something I want to do regularly.

In love

The Wren is small but mighty. It's gorgeous and writes beautifully. I love it even more than the Lumos! It feels better in the hand for me with the larger diameter of the barrel. I bought two in case I wanted to gift one, but no way that will be happening now!
