Wren - Take Flight & Write

A beautiful and infinitely refillable writing pen, equipped with a Japanese-made writing tip. We're on a mission to make choosing refillable options easier, so you can now buy two (or more!) Wren pens and save 10%

Each year, an estimated 9 billion pens are thrown away, contributing to growing environmental waste. Many writing tools are designed with convenience in mind, often leading to a cycle of frequent replacements, which generates significant waste and limits options for those seeking more sustainable, long-lasting choices.

As a product designer and craftsman who loves writing, I became frustrated with the waste created by disposable pens. They would pile up in drawers, waiting for a specific refill, or worse, end up in the bin despite being perfectly usable – if only they had ink.

After years of designing and handcrafting calligraphy and fountain pens for creatives worldwide, I decided it was time to tackle one of the biggest culprits: the everyday writing pen. The result? The Wren – a pen designed not only to write beautifully but also to last a lifetime, helping to reduce the mountains of waste created by disposable pens.

Full FAQs and a video guide to getting started with your Wren can be found here.

What ink can I use?

The Wren is compatible with all but the most experimental fountain pen inks (think shimmer + iridescent). We offer a beautiful range of ink for fountain pens, which are perfect for the Wren and can be found here.

Note: Calligraphy Ink has an acrylic binder which will block the pen and is not suitable for use with the Wren.

Some ink colours can concentrate in the tip, so you may experience a lighter colour after a line or two. This is completely normal and looks quite nice!

How do I store the reservoir and tips?
You can store reservoirs and tips, and change to a different colour using spare reservoirs and my reservoir storage containers.

How long will the tips/ink last?
You can expect the high-quality, Japanese-made tip to last for months of use. We tested a single ink fill in the Wren on a plotter – a device used for precision drawing – and it wrote consistently for 344 metres. That's the equivalent of 50 A4 pages of handwriting!

When the tip eventually dulls, you can find packs of three replacement tips here.

Anything else I should know?
Yes! I’ve designed the pen to include ‘micro-grooves’, tiny ridges that enhance grip without using plastics. Please note: the black and midnight colourways do not feature these micro-grooves, as they have a grippy matte finish.

Beautiful pen

A beautifully balanced pen that feels weighty in the hand. When uncapped it forms a nice length pen and writes so smoothly. I am a convert!

Loveable Wren

I’m very happy indeed with my wren. Initially I was surprised how small it is, I think I got confused with a lumps. Maybe gut get a lumps as well - for the arty stuff but the wren is perfect for crosswords and shopping lists.

I had heard such good things about this pen but still didn’t know what to expect. I am blown away from the beautiful packaging, to the pen and ink is beautiful. Eager to start filled the pen which was easy and mess free and started writing. Loved it from the word go so much so I went straight back on and ordered a second for my work bag.

Beautifully presented if for a gift and the thought and care is amazing with a cuppa provided to sit and unwrap although I now need more of the tea xx

A perfect gift.

My husband is so happy with this pen. He’s left handed and actually can’t use many pens because of the angle he holds his pen. This is the exception and writes beautifully.

Beautiful pens and really proud to gift them

I had purchased a fountain pen previously and utterly love it. On occasion I struggle to work the nib/ink handover but this is because I'm oersianllt super clumsy
I saw the Wren and chose a deep green and pink mix which meets my personality. I love it. Clean, responsive and sustainable. I am relatively ambidextrous but was trained to be right handed from young so my left hand handwriting is messy and unrefined. I've been working on this ans the wren is a beautiful pen to support this. I love how it adapts and that it is forgiving nib and ink wise. I invested in a pen for each of my colleagues at work (Including a lumos for an artist colleague) and I'm really proud to see them use them and enjoy them. It was fun picking the colours for each stuff member that matched their vibe and the fact they are sustainable and environmentally friendly is wonderful. Our entire departmental team now rocks a Wren and some are buying pens for their partners
Really love the craftsmanship that Tom's Studio impart
