Pigment-rich, waterproof, and lightfast – what’s not to love?

Great news: my amazing pigment-based waterproof ink works perfectly in a fountain pen as well as the Lumos. This means UV rays don’t stand a chance; nothing is being dulled here! You can confidently lay watercolours or other inks on top without fear of bleeding.

Made in the UK, this ink rivals the finest American, Japanese, and German equivalents.

  • Each bottle holds 50ml of this lovely ink, enough to keep you going for reams of writing, drawing, or doodling.

  • Each ink comes beautifully presented in a stunning bottle with an antique laid paper, gold-foiled label.

Our fountain pen ink is compatible with all Tom’s Studio Pens, including calligraphy (the Flourish, Carrot, and Bloom), fountain (the Studio and Studio Pocket), fineliner (the Lumos and Lumos Mini), and the Wren.


Pigment Black dries a matte charcoal black. It's worth waiting a couple of hours before applying washes over the top of the ink to be sure that it is completely dry.

Be sure to cap your pen when not in use. Please do not store your fountain pen for long periods of time with this ink, as it may clog the feed. We recommend rinsing your tips out weekly.

Even when capped, ink can evaporate from the tip leaving it a little dry. If this happens just dip in a little water and scribble until you see the ink flowing again.


Because the ink has such a concentrated colour, you can dilute it with a smidge of water (ideally distilled) to create watercolour-like washes and depth of colour.

At last, a waterproof ink that’s actually, well, waterproof! And black… ink is black!

Beautiful rich black, properly waterproof ink

As a watercolour artist I was looking for a waterproof black ink for a little line and wash work. Unlike Tom's Studio No.1 ink, which disperses wonderfully in water, the 60 is very nicely waterproof and' unlike some other inks that say they are waterproof' there is no bleeding after waiting the few seconds for the ink is dry. When laid down I found it to give a rich dark black that was waterproof within a few seconds of being applied to the paper. Ideal for line work that receives a later wash of colour, or vice versa depending on your style. As it's from Tom's Studio I have the additional security of knowing that it's a suitable ink for use in my Pocket Pen as well as my Lumos Pro fine liner. Tom's Studio also gives me the confidence to use this ink knowing that it's been made, and packaged, with a minimized environmental impact. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

Writing and sketching ink

As an inveterate journaller, and sketcher, i use my Lomos and Wren pen all the time and wanted an ink that would stand up to sketching and watercolours. This is my go-to black and its superb (and works wit the pens perfectly). Top marks
