Pigment-rich, waterproof*, and lightfast – what’s not to love?

Great news: my amazing pigment-based waterproof ink works perfectly in a fountain pen as well as the Lumos. This means UV rays don’t stand a chance; nothing is being dulled here! You can confidently lay watercolours or other inks on top without fear of bleeding.

Made in the UK, this ink rivals the finest American, Japanese, and German equivalents.

*Waterproof? Well, almost. Our ink is highly water-resistant, meaning it’ll stay true under a colour wash – provided you’ve given it time to fully dry. But if you go in heavy with a very wet overwash, you might notice some smudging. Unlike true waterproof inks (which often contain plastic binders), we’ve formulated this one to work beautifully with the Lumos – balancing flow, performance, and durability.

  • Each bottle holds 50ml of this lovely ink, enough to keep you going for reams of writing, drawing, or doodling.

  • Each ink comes beautifully presented in a stunning bottle with an antique laid paper, gold-foiled label.

Our pigment ink is compatible with Tom’s Studio calligraphy pens (the Flourish, Carrot, and Bloom), fountain pens (the Studio and Studio Pocket), and the Lumos and Lumos Mini.


Pigment Black dries a matte charcoal black. It's worth waiting a couple of hours before applying washes over the top of the ink to be sure that it is completely dry.

Be sure to cap your pen when not in use. Please do not store your fountain pen for long periods of time with this ink, as it may clog the feed. We recommend rinsing your tips out weekly.

Even when capped, ink can evaporate from the tip leaving it a little dry. If this happens just dip in a little water and scribble until you see the ink flowing again.


Because the ink has such a concentrated colour, you can dilute it with a smidge of water (ideally distilled) to create watercolour-like washes and depth of colour.

Amazing pen and ink

I am a pen and watercolour artist, and have been wanting to get the Lumos Pen and the waterproof ink, 60 Pigment Black, for a while, so I hinted to my husband and got it as a birthday present! I absolutely love it, the pen is weighty and the ink flows so well, it is a beautiful pen to draw with. It works perfectly with watercolour. All the different nibs are adding to my drawing technique. It is also so easy to set up and use. Thank you for a wonderful pen that has made my drawing so much smoother.

Beautiful Ink. Makes the pen a terrific replacement for waterproof fineliners

I bought the Tom's Studio pen with this ink when I found out I couldn't get replacement nibs for Copic Multiliner SPs anymore. Pen is good, ink is great. My biggest concern was whether I'd be able to use it with watercolors and I was very pleased to find that the ink is very water proof and holds up to the paint process very well.

Great Waterproof Ink

This waterproof ink works great with watercolors- and it doesn’t clog up the nibs. A bit pricey, but it goes a long way. Definitely worth the price.
