A beautiful extra fine fountain pen nib with flex! This nib strikes the perfect balance between our Pro Flex and classic fountain pen nibs, offering a smooth writing experience with minimal upkeep. With gentle pressure, it elegantly flexes from 0.5mm to 1.5mm, allowing for expressive line variation.

Made exclusively for our fountain pens, all nibs are tipped with hard-wearing iridium for effortlessly smooth writing. You can choose between uncoated stainless steel (a sleek silver finish) or 14k gold plating (a classic gold finish) – the difference is purely aesthetic, so both options offer the same exceptional performance. Plus, every nib is interchangeable, allowing you to effortlessly switch styles whenever inspiration strikes.

Introducing Our Limited-Edition Ebonite Feed

Looking for a little something extra for your writing setup? Enter the Ebonite Feed. Unlike our injection-moulded feeds, ebonite is a game-changer for ink flow. Its natural hydrophilic properties (think super ink-grabbing powers) mean it holds more ink, giving you a smoother, wetter writing experience that’s perfect for those who like their pens to glide across the page.

This limited-run feed is part of an experimental release – we’ve sourced just a small batch to see what you think. If you’re all about peak performance, this might just be your new favourite upgrade.

Why Choose Ebonite?

  1. Ink-holding champion – More ink means fewer interruptions.

  2. Perfect flow – Balanced, smooth, and consistent writing.

  3. Made for the curious – If you’re ready to explore the next level of nib performance, this is for you.

Stock is limited (really limited), so grab yours while you can. And if we sell out, be sure to hit that 'Notify Me' button.

Semi-flex nib with ebonite feed

As a fountain pen enthusiast for my whole life, I have been searching for a good modern flex nib that will rival the vintage gold flex nibs, or give me the Zebra G experience without the scratchiness. As part of that search, I came across the Tom's Studio Semi-flex nib so ordered one, albeit with low expectations since it was being sold as semi-flex rather than full flex. But I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was to use, so much so that I ordered a second one. It wasn't perfect straight out of the box as I had to find a wetter ink to avoid railroading issues, and I had to use it for some time for it to 'break in' and soften slightly (or have I just got used to using it?). The extra fine nib gives me some lovely fine, crisp upstrokes, whilst the flex is sufficient to give a pretty reasonable line variation on the downstrokes as you will see from the image below. Does it give me the vintage gold experience or the delightful softness of the Zebra G? To be honest, no, but then it was never intended to. What it does give me is some really good flex, modern fountain pen convenience, a good ink flow with the ebonite feed, and a generally smooth writing experience. It is a pleasure to write with. Now Tom, if you could just make a softer, full flex version, I'll be first in line.......but until then, I'm really enjoying this one 🙂.

I really like the extra stiffness, versus an ultraflex. I use both. I am heavy handed. It depends on how much line variation you're wanting. I draw and write will all my pens and nibs.

Gold vs stainless

I ordered the gold nib first and fell in love 🥰 So I tried to order another but only the stainless was in stock. Sadly it is not as flexible as the gold one. If I had known, I would have waited for a gold one. I am hoping that the stainless will become more flexible with use…
*EDIT* Laura from customer service was awesome! The gold nib was back in stock and it is lovely and expressive. Very little break in and I have been using it everyday since receiving it, in my Studio Fountain Pen.

Excellent

I had recently purchased an ef fountain nib that wasn’t working quite right. I reached out to customer service to troubleshoot - which was super helpful. After troubleshooting what I may be doing wrong (let’s be honest, sometimes it is this newby) the CS team sent a new one out immediately and it works great. I’m super pleased and will continue to be a big fan of TS!
