Brass is one of those materials that just gets better with age – like a good book, or a well-used armchair. It warms to your touch, tells a story with every scuff, and carries the kind of quiet confidence only old souls (and finely tuned pens) can pull off.

The Brass Wren takes all the things people love about the original – refillable, balanced, built to last – and gives it the kind of weight that says: “yep, I mean business." At 53g, it’s more than double the weight of the standard Wren (20g). It’s fitted with a precision Japanese-made tip, engineered to glide across the page, and machined right here in the UK by people who usually make things like luxury watches and aerospace bits. In short: no corner-cutting here.

It’s got that unmistakable feel of a pen that’s going to be with you for the long haul – through ideas, to-dos, doodles, drafts and deep thoughts in cafés. Perfect for modern thinkers with a soft spot for the analogue – the kind who annotate in margins and name their favourite pens.

Built to last, beautifully.

Full FAQs and a video guide to getting started with your Wren can be found here.

What ink can I use?
The Wren is compatible with all standard Fountain Pen Inks and we have a beautiful range of colours, which are perfect for the Wren and can be found here. Please note the Wren is not suitable for use with our Shimmer Fountain Pen Inks, No.60 Pigment Black Ink or Calligraphy Inks.

Some ink colours can concentrate in the tip, so you may experience a lighter colour after a line or two. This is completely normal and looks quite nice!

How do I store the reservoir and tips?
You can store reservoirs and tips, and change to a different colour using spare reservoirs and my reservoir storage containers.

How long will the tips/ink last?
You can expect the high-quality, Japanese-made tip to last for months of use. We tested a single ink fill in the Wren on a plotter – a device used for precision drawing – and it wrote consistently for 344 metres. That's the equivalent of 50 A4 pages of handwriting!

When the tip eventually dulls, you can find packs of three replacement tips here.

Anything else I should know?
Over time the brass will naturally develop its own unique patina. Some love the character this adds, while others prefer to keep their pen polished. Brass requires some extra upkeep to keep it nice and shiny! Please see video on how to do this here.

Its so cute

I absolutely LOVE this pen, I have had it since May, and I have used it every single day, I prefer it over my Lumos, its just such a cute size, and feels so comfortable to write with! My only wish would be you could buy a clip on clip, so you can attach it to things, just to make it easier to keep with my diaries/notebooks. The colour options are amazing, and I love that I can have the colours I want and not have to just have single boring colours. I just love everything about this little pen, just changed the nib for the first time, it was still working fine, but had just got a bit wider from being used, with me being a bit heavy with my hand. I just love everything about it!

Betcha can't have just one

I ordered a lovely Raspberry/Midnight Wren, determined not to lose it on my black desk—and then at lunch bought a black/black at an art supply store. I haven't regretted it: having one or two pocketable pens—my shirts have no pockets for an ordinary pen—means that using notebooks becomes practical, and I fuss with my phone—and get distracted—far less. I love the feel of writing with these. I have to admit that Tom's Fibre-Tip Ink does flow more readily than Tom's Fountain Pen ink does: with the two pens, it's easy to see and feel the difference.
These were just the gateway drug: now I have Tom's Pocket Fountain Pen, too, and have upped my taste in papers. I still use all three, every day.

Oh my, how I love this pen. I was a little unsure whether to order initially as I knew it was small, but goodness me I'm glad I did. What a powerhouse of a pen. A small, but perfectly formed maestro of a writing implement. Aside from the fact that I love that you can choose the colour combinations, and the ink is easily refillable. This pen writes like a dream. I want to sit and compose endless letters for the sheer enjoyment of using this pen. No regrets, only wondrous joy of finding a pen that writes so beautifully.
