Our much-loved No. 60 Pigment Ink is back – new and improved. Inspired by the very best Japanese pigment inks, it’s waterproof*, lightfast, and beautifully intense.
Whether you’re sketching fine linework, writing pages of notes, or layering watercolour washes over the top, this ink is designed to stay crisp and smudge-free.
Performance & care – a quick heads up
Because this is a pigment-based ink, it behaves a little differently from our dye-based fountain pen inks.
It’s compatible with all of our pens – The Lumos, Wren, Field Mouse and our Fountain Pens. If you’re using the finest fineliner tips in the Lumos (0.4 and below), here are a few helpful pointers:
  • If you won’t be using your pen for more than a few days, remove the tip and reservoir, rinse thoroughly with water, and allow everything to dry completely before refilling.
  • Avoid storing your Lumos vertically (tip up). Ink can flow away from the nib, leaving it less saturated and more prone to drying out – even when capped.
  • If pigment ink dries inside a tip or reservoir, it can’t be revived due to the pigment particles. Simply replace the tip and reservoir and you’re back in business.
A little care goes a long way. In return, you’ll get crisp, permanent, archival black lines.
*Waterproof? Almost. This ink is highly water-resistant once fully dry. It will hold beautifully under a light to moderate colour wash. Very heavy, very wet overwashes may cause slight movement, so we always recommend testing before committing final marks to the page.
  • Each bottle holds 50ml of this lovely ink, enough to keep you going for reams of writing, drawing, or doodling.
  • All our inks are water-based, acid-free, non-toxic, and vegan-friendly.
  • Each ink comes beautifully presented in a stunning bottle with an antique laid paper, gold-foiled label.

Our pigment ink is compatible with Tom’s Studio calligraphy pens (the Flourish, Carrot, and Bloom), fountain pens (the Studio and Studio Pocket), and the Lumos and Lumos Mini.

Pigment Black dries a matte charcoal black. It's worth waiting a couple of hours before applying washes over the top of the ink to be sure that it is completely dry.

Be sure to cap your pen when not in use. Please do not store your fountain pen for long periods of time with this ink, as it may clog the feed. We recommend rinsing your tips out weekly.

Even when capped, ink can evaporate from the tip leaving it a little dry. If this happens just dip in a little water and scribble until you see the ink flowing again.

Because the ink has such a concentrated colour, you can dilute it with a smidge of water (ideally distilled) to create watercolour-like washes and depth of colour.
