Wren - Take Flight & Write

A beautiful and infinitely refillable writing pen, equipped with a Japanese-made writing tip. We're on a mission to make choosing refillable options easier, so you can now buy two (or more!) Wren pens and save 10%

Every year, millions of disposable pens are thrown-away, adding to the growing environmental waste. Similar to printer ink cartridges, pen companies design their products for short-term use, pushing you to repeatedly buy new pens or refills. It's profitable for them, but disastrous for the planet – and limits your creative freedom.

As a product designer and craftsman who loves writing, I became frustrated with the waste created by disposable pens. They would pile up in drawers, waiting for a specific refill, or worse, end up in the bin despite being perfectly usable – if only they had ink.

After years of designing and handcrafting calligraphy and fountain pens for creatives worldwide, I decided it was time to tackle one of the biggest culprits: the everyday writing pen. The result? The Wren – a pen designed not only to write beautifully but also to last a lifetime, helping to reduce the mountains of waste created by disposable pens.

Full FAQs and a video guide to getting started with your Wren can be found here.

What ink can I use?

The Wren is compatible with all but the most experimental fountain pen inks (think shimmer + iridescent). We offer a beautiful range of ink for fountain pens, which are perfect for the Wren and can be found here.

Note: Calligraphy Ink has an acrylic binder which will block the pen and is not suitable for use with the Wren.

Some ink colours can concentrate in the tip, so you may experience a lighter colour after a line or two. This is completely normal and looks quite nice!

How do I store the reservoir and tips?
You can store reservoirs and tips, and change to a different colour using spare reservoirs and my reservoir storage containers.

How long will the tips/ink last?
You can expect the high-quality, Japanese-made tip to last for months of use. We tested a single ink fill in the Wren on a plotter – a device used for precision drawing – and it wrote consistently for 344 metres. That's the equivalent of 50 A4 pages of handwriting!

When the tip eventually dulls, you can find packs of three replacement tips here.

Anything else I should know?
Yes! I’ve designed the pen to include ‘micro-grooves’, tiny ridges that enhance grip without using plastics. Please note: the black and midnight colourways do not feature these micro-grooves, as they have a grippy matte finish.

We aim to process your order within 1-3 working days. Please note that this increases to 1-4 working days for orders that include any personalisation, such as engraving.

A New Favourite

I have been penpalling for over 50 years, and love the way this pen feel and how smoothly it writes. My letter are much neater than when I use a fountain pen as this eliminates all my usual smudges and blots. And so many delicious in colours to choose from. The tiny reservoir seems to hold a tremendous amount of ink. I've written 10 sheets of A4 and it still isn't showing any signs of needing a top up, which makes it extremely economical to use.. My one recommendation for improvement would be to give it a clip so that it doesn't fall to the bottom of your pocket or bag. I spend almost as much time searching for mine in a blind panic as I do using it.

Absolutely best pen ever.

Having arthritic hands so many pens are too light with slippy grip for me so decided to try the Wren and I’m so glad I did. Regardless of my hands this is genuinely a really lovely, balanced pen to hold.. The fact it is refillable means no more plastic pens or messy fountain pens as the Wren is a doddle to refill. Gorgeous colours available and had so many people ask me where I got it from. Definitely a winner for me and the planet!

Fantastic purchase

I really like writing with ink, but I have, due to the way I hold the pens, problems with proper nibs. The Wren is a great workaround for me. The design ist not only stylish but the pen also extremely well made. I already have three pens. Now, which colour should I get next?

It started with 1

So I’ve been looking at Tom’s studio since February and then I saw the Wren and decided it was just the pen I needed. I use Stabilo point 88 pens for work and am on my 3rd or 4th pack of 10 in 3 years so when I saw the Wren was a fairly small point with dark ink I took the plunge along with a mini ink selection! Once the ink had soaked in over night and I used the pen at work for the first time I was hooked but needed another so I could have 2 colours on the go. My second pen was ordered and I have no idea how the third jumped in to my basket??? The only thing I will say is the closed pen itself is tiny which I did not realise due to my own stupidity! One very happy camper!

Fantastic!

I’m sort of a connoisseur of pens. I don’t own a lot of expensive ones but I buy all the time. I’m always looking for the perfect blend of how it writes (I prefer a scratchier/dry feel), balance and how it feels in my hand. The Wren ticked all of those boxes. They didn’t have midnight so I ordered Raspberry. It’s a beautiful color! That said, midnight restocked so number two and another ink color is on its way. When you find something great, it’s best to have a backup!
