Studio Glass Dip Pens
A brief guide to get you started with your new glass dip pen.
ABOUT THE STUDIO GLASS DIP PENS
Each of our Glass Dip Pens is lovingly handmade in Somerset by a master glass artist, making every pen a unique treasure.
Each pen is beautifully unique thanks to its handmade nature, with slight variations in size that make every piece one of a kind.
Studio Glass Dual Tip is approximately 15.5cm in length and 20g in weight.
Studio Glass Experimental is approximately between 13-15.5cm in length and 15g in weight.
We recommend smooth, high-quality paper such as Bristol board or smooth drawing paper to prevent ink from bleeding or feathering. Avoid textured or porous papers – they can disrupt the flow of ink and affect the precision of your work.
ALL ABOUT INKS
Our Glass Dip Pens work wonderfully with fountain pen and calligraphy ink. For calligraphy ink, thin it slightly if needed, to achieve the smoothest flow.
Switching ink colours is a breeze! Simply rinse the nib with water (or use our Nib Cleaning Solution for a deeper clean), gently wipe it with a soft cloth, and dip into the new ink colour.
ALL ABOUT NIBS
The secret is in the spiral grooves of the nib – they hold a generous amount of ink and release it evenly as you write.
This clever design offers two nibs in one pen: a fine nib for delicate, intricate details and a medium nib for bold, expressive strokes. Flip the pen to switch between them effortlessly. Plus, you can dip each nib into a different ink colour for added versatility!
The Italic nib is perfect for creating bold, broad strokes, while the Oblique nib offers dynamic line variance for unique lettering or patterns.
These experimental nibs allow for creative possibilities – we’d love your feedback to refine them further!
Every Glass Dip Pen is handmade, so each one is a little different. If you’d like to refine the nib further, a touch of fine wet and dry sandpaper can help you adjust it to suit your writing style.
CARING FOR YOUR STUDIO GLASS DIP PEN
To keep your pen in perfect working order, give it a rinse after each use. Use water or our Nib Cleaning Solution for stubborn ink, gently dry it with a soft cloth, and let it air dry before popping it away.
Store your pen in its original box to keep it safe and scratch-free. This helps protect it from accidental bumps so it stays as gorgeous as the day you received it.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Skipping often happens when the nib isn’t fully clean or is running low on ink. Clean the nib, re-dip it, and adjust your grip – holding the pen at the correct angle ensures smooth ink flow.
We’re so sorry to hear about your pen! If the nib is chipped, gently smooth it with fine wet and dry sandpaper to restore functionality. Take care not to overdo it, and you’ll be back to creating beautiful lines in no time.
