Introducing Sneha Narayan, a British calligrapher whose journey into the world of art was inspired by her beloved grandmother. Recently returning from the Cannes Film Festival, Sneha served as their on-site calligrapher, showcasing her exceptional skills to an international audience.
We are thrilled to feature her as this month’s Artist Takeover, where she will share her insights, inspirations, and of course some of her enchanting work.

Please can you give me an introduction about who you are and what you do?
Hi I’m Sneha - I’m a full-time doctor who started learning calligraphy 5 years ago as a way to unwind. The mindfulness I gained from practicing calligraphy helped me deal with the anxiety of starting a new job and as I built it into my sleep routine it helped me get a better nights sleep. I started my own Instagram page and very soon, what started as a self taught hobby became my biggest escape.
I have worked with some of the biggest luxury brands in the world such as Christian Louboutin, Dior, Bvlgari and many more. I have also worked on some of the largest red carpet events such as The Cannes Film Festival and the BAFTA’s afterparty.
When did you start calligraphy?
I started learning 5 years ago and continue to pursue calligraphy alongside my full time job.
What appeals to you most about what you do?
I absolutely love the escape this incredibly versatile art provides. The applications of calligraphy can range from on-site work where I get to meet wonderful customers to creating a bespoke heirloom for someone’s special day. Calligraphy is so different to what I do in my day job, it’s like a spa for my mind.
I love that it has turned into what it is today, but I will always strive to keep my page true to the reason it was created in the first place - a positive space, where one can always get lost in the depths of the love for art.
If you had to start again, what advice would you give yourself?
Believe in yourself a little more. I had a lot of imposter syndrome (and frankly still do), I didn’t believe I was good enough, but I pushed myself and did it anyway. If you never try, you’ll never know. Whenever you think to yourself, what if I fall? Ask yourself, what if you fly?
What are the best resources you’ve found online or elsewhere that helped you get started?
YouTube and Instagram are honestly the best resources available. They are free and at your fingertips! Find creatives that inspire you and take that leap of faith
Who are the artists/individuals that inspire you most and where can we find them?
My grandmother is and will always be my first source of inspiration. She instilled the love of art within me from the age of 6. She loved learning new art forms, and continues to work away at art pieces even today, at the age of 89! Her hands are not as steady and her eyes are not as sharp, but she continues to show me (and the world) that these limitations don’t need to stop you.
Apart from my Grandmother, I find my inspiration in a variety of artists, I particularly love the work of artisans in India. I take a lot of colour inspiration from designers like Sabyasachi. From the calligraphy world I love the aesthetic and style of Lauren @Fabulousfete along with the very talented Younghae @logoscalligraphy.
