As a designer, I am never without my trusty fineliner. I really enjoy the feel of the tip on the page, the choice of line widths, and the quality of the ink. I just always hated throwing away a pen after it had run out of ink or the tip had broken. I often found that this would happen regularly to my favorite tip size, and I'd be replacing the same pen over and over. This is obviously great for the company that makes these pens but a disaster for the planet!
The Lumos is a refillable pen compatible with 11 professional interchangeable tips
So, I decided to design a pen that could be refilled easily and with tips that are interchangeable and replaceable. Each pen has a reservoir that holds 2.5ml of ink which is can be refilled or topped-up with any fountain pen ink colour including waterproof pigment ink. The 11 interchangeable tips are all made by specialists in Japan including Fineliners: 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 0.8, 1.0 Felt-tips- 2mm Chisel, Bullet and Brush. You can find the full creative tip set here .
Each pen can hold up to 2.5ml of ink, which means that it can last for a long time before needing a refill. And when it's time to refill, you can easily top it up with any fountain pen ink color that you prefer, even waterproof pigment ink!
The Lumos pen is not just a writing tool, but also a statement accessory that you can carry with you wherever you go. Its sleek design and high-quality materials make it a durable and reliable pen that you can use for years to come. So why settle for a disposable pen when you can upgrade your writing experience with the infinitely refillable Lumos pen?
I’ve also introduced some durable and smooth writing tips which have to be used to be believed. They are a real joy to use!
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The Lumos - Refillable Fineliner Pen comes with a 0.3 tip and you can also buy replacements in packs of 3 here: Lumos tips. Or the full tip set here
- A reusable cotton core reservoir for each nib, spares available here: Lumos reservoirs. The longer version works in this pen
- The pen includes a Tom's Studio - Deep Black Ink (not waterproof) 5ml bottle of ink. More colours are available here: Fountain pen ink as well as waterproof pigment inks . Calligraphy Inks are not compatible (find out more in FAQs below).
Full FAQs can be found here
What ink can I use?
- All nibs will work with all but the most experimental fountain pen inks (think shimmer + iridescent). I've tried a LOT and I'm yet to find one that doesn't work well. I'd encourage you to experiment and find the inks that work best for you!
Pigment Ink for fountain pens can be found here.
Calligraphy Ink has an acrylic binder which will block the Pen
What are the differences between the Duo and the Single Lumos?
The Duo Lumos allows you to have two different pens in one body, allowing you to easily change between nibs and ink colours on either side.
The Single Lumos has one tip and one ink reservoir which is double the Duo's reservoir size.
What's the difference between the Lumos and other refillable technical pens? (E.g. Rotring Isograph and Copic Multiliner).
Please find my explainer here
Fountain pen made for Rapidograph addicts. My generation went to school in prehistoric times, suffice it to say that our glass inkpots were filled every morning by the janitor and we used pen tips. Talking of Italy in the mid-sixties. But we do learn how to write, how to draw and how to hold a pencil… or a Rapidpgraph. So, even if I’ve spent my working life using a typing machine/PC keyboard, I still love to write and draw using fountain pens, the thinner the tip the better. I had a lovely pen with a felt tip, but it used a cartridge that did not last long. Now, with Lumos and all its tips, I can draw or write using my inks, but not the pen. The top fits neatly into the back of the holder and you will never look for it again. Magic, if you ask me. Please note that when filling whatever you call the cartridge replacement, the “thing” remains spot-clean. This puzzles me, but it is oh-so-clever!
Have reviewed already. Second batch of pens am on.
Absolutely beautiful pen. Feels good to hold, beautifully packaged. Excellent to use. Highly recommend. Will certainly purchase another in the near future
Things aren't always Black and White.
Any ink colour anytime. The Lumos is designed so that you can refill with any fountain pen ink (and even some pigment inks). So there are no limits to your colour palette when creating your next masterpiece.
Make it Yours
We all have our favourite nib sizes and styles. Customising your Lumos to be your perfect writing, drawing or doodling companion couldn't be easier!

Japan is where the best technical pens are made. I was never going to be able to design anything that came close to the precision and decades of perfectionism of a Japanese-made nib. So I designed the Lumos around them, with 9 sizes and types you are sure to find the ones to perfectly suit your style.
Reduce, Reuse, Refill
It's always seemed crazy to me to have to dispose of an otherwise amazing pen, just because it has run out of ink! With it's interchangeable ink reservoir the Lumos allows you to easily refill with your ink colour of choice. You'll also never have to buy another pen again! No more refills, No more waste
As a designer, I am always reaching for at least two pens to highlight or add details in different styles to my work. Different pen styles offer different functions, whether that's accentuating detail in a drawing, changing between line weights, or just doodling for the fun of it I wanted to create a pen that you could use for a variety of tasks and that you could truly customise to the way you work.
